Thursday October 28th

Today we (Hasse, Ulrika and I) left for Stockholm. It was about a 5-hour car drive and probable another 20 minutes because of traffic. That night we stayed at Ulrikas fathers house. Her brother came over and we had Fika with both of them. Her brother is a very funny guy. I like him a lot. He reminded me a bit of Uncle Scott. Not AS funny as him but pretty close. He would speak English to me and I answered in Swedish. It was great cuz I understood what he said so I could answer! Also I met his son, and then later that night Gustaf came over to say hi. While we were flipping through TV channels we found the World Series game playing. I got all excited even though I didn’t really care who won. It was just cool to see a baseball game.

The next day, Friday, Caroline came and met me and showed me around Stockholm. It was a bit of a windy day but so cool to see the city. It’s a very big one. She took me to Gammalstad, (Oldcity) and I got to see one of the main royal buildings. I also saw a guard, and I wanted to go up to him and try to make him talk but Caroline wouldn’t let me. She like dragged me from there. We then walked to Slussen were one of my friends from Sjölunden is living. So we met up with Erik, which was so great!! He showed us around and we went up on this walkway thing that overlooked the city. It was so beautiful. They Caroline took us to her old house were she grew up and then we walked through this beautiful church. We said goodbye to him later which was sad, but then found a English store were they had Mac and Cheese and Peanut Butter!! Also Mountain Dew, which they told us when we arrived they didn’t have. We took the subway and bus back to her house where we had a little snack and then watched a little TV until dinner was ready. We had Elk, which tasted amazing! Her dad’s a hunter so she’s very lucky! That night we watched Some Gossip Girl that I brought and then since it was Halloween we watched the movie The Shining. Not scary at all, and I hate scary movies! I actually went to bed before it was over. It didn’t thrill me at all. The next day they said I could stay another night so we went to pick up her grandma and go light a candle on her husband’s grave. (That’s what they do for Halloween, since its all saints day or something). After that we had Fika with her and then went shopping for that nights dinner. They were having neighbors over for dinner. Cecilia and I made a cake for desert (The same cake they made when Mary Jo and Phill came to visit them). Again before dinner Caroline and I got out Gossip Girl and watched it before dinner. Dinner was great, lots of wonderful Deer with potato’s and salad. Their neighbors were very nice and I learned they also have a dog, so hopefully next time when I come I can see it. That night Caroline wanted to watch another scary movie, so we watched that but during commercial breaks we watched “Because I Said So”, which is a great movie! The scary movie was somewhat scary but more messed up then anything. I screamed once and had to sit by Cecilia for the rest of the movie. It had its moments but mostly not as scary as it could be. The next morning we somewhat lounged around the house until my host parents had to pick me up. By they time they came I didn’t want to leave. I ended up crying while leaving them. I felt like I was somewhat home while I was with them for the 3 days. Saying goodbye to Caroline was the hardest. We had so much fun together that I just didn’t want to go. I got really home sick from seeing her. I know I will see her again, but it just got me missing home and everything. Their family was so sweet to me for letting me stay for the weekend. I cried about half way home. Through this whole visit to my second family it helped me realize what Caroline went through at the beginning of her year. Only she was lucky enough that she didn’t have people remind her of her family like I did. I am very luck to have 2 families in Sweden. On Thursday Emma flew to Italy to see a friend she met in American that was also an exchange student. We picked her up on our way back to Göteberg. It was a great weekend with a lot of realization and crying. Now I don’t want to go back to school tomorrow!
